The mental health needs in this Bronx district are severe. 20% of the students are homeless and have to face the reality of violence in their schools and surrounding community.

There is an opportunity here and in similar districts to bring jobs to the community. We need to advocate to train local social workers and equip them with tools for working with trauma as well as tools for teaching social and emotional learning and mindfulness.
